Smagliczka skalna to niska roślina, znajdująca się w gronie najważniejszych bylin, kwitnących wiosną. Wytwarza rozetę wydłużonych, zielonych liści, pokrytych srebrzystym owłosieniem. Kwiaty, w zależności od odmiany w różnych odcieniach żółci, zebrane w gęste baldachogrona. Rozwijają się one tuż ponad liśćmi w kwietniu i maju. Smagliczka wydziela przyjemny miodowy zapach, wabiący licznych zapylaczy. Odmiany różnią się również wysokością roślin, osiągając od 20-50 cm. Roślina nadaje się do obsadzania skalniaków oraz murków ogrodowych. Najładniej prezentuje się w szczelinach skalnych lub między dużymi głazami. Nadaje się również do obsadzania rabat bylinowych. Bardzo dobrze komponuje się z innymi bylinami należącymi do tzw. wiosennej piątki: żagwinem, floksem szydlastym, ubiorkiem wiecznie zielonym, gęsiówką kaukaską. Doskonale sprawdzi się również w towarzystwie zawciągów nadmorskich, goździków kropkowanych. Preferuje gleby wapienne, piaszczyste, suche, dobrze nasłonecznione, ale rosnąć będzie również na terenach pozostających w półcieniu. Dobrze znosi dłuższe okresy suszy.
