Rozchodniki ogrodowe, okazałe lub karpackie tworzą kępy od 30 do 75 cm wysokości. Posiadają grube, ulistnione łodygi. Liście zebrane są w okółki lub umieszczone naprzeciwlegle. Są szeroko-jajowate, odstające, siedzące, mięsiste, mniej lub bardziej ząbkowane, w zależności od odmiany zielone, niebieskawo-zielone, zielono-purpurowe, bordowe lub pstre. Kwiatostany w zależności od odmiany mniej lub bardziej zwarte, średnicy 10-15 cm składają się z białych, kremowych, żółtych, różowych lub czerwonych kwiatów. Kwiaty rozwijają się w zależności od odmiany od lipca do października.
